The highlight for me has been the class Heather taught us in person. It was great to be with other hopefuls, sharing and learning together. At the end of our class, we were presented with a list of our strengths and ideas for choosing the right paths. I have mine hanging up in my living room, across from my recliner.
Each time I look up and see it, a smile crosses my lips. Because of health problems, I'm moving very slowly. But, I'm moving! And your help and the camaraderie of my fellow students is a big part of my success to come.

The Master Class is a must for an in depth expose and intensive education as to what is involved, what are the creative and technical demands in addition to providing invaluable resources for marketing, training, practical application and equipment etc. I enjoyed my experience with the Master Class immensely and received in my opinion my money's worth in training and inspiration.
There is no other comprehensive A to Z group to my knowledge that delivers a comparable package in training, guidance and most invaluable information when it comes to starting a career in voiceovers. Without the complete wrap-up one is nowhere, drifting and bobbing about in a giant sea of questions and no answers in this highly competitive field.
Talent, desire and honed expertise will always rise to the surface. And today with the innovation of the home studio and the needed knowledge to enable one to compete through the internet (which widens the possibilities as well) a creative talent is behooved to find the kind of full support that SAV has to offer -- REALLY!!!
I am a recent Master Class attendee and thus I am still gearing up in certain areas such as procuring the proper home equipment -- though I do have an outside studio lined up when an audition comes through. This company I found to be the BEST way for me to re-enter the field.
When the time came to make my demos I was completely prepared and confident. I delivered a professionally read, and recorded "product". A few professional composer/musician friends of mine were very impressed with my commercial and narrative demos.
I am also pleased that Such A Voice posts their Master Class grad's demos on their website and offer tele-classes bimonthly as well for further instruction and training in all areas of the voiceover industry. The SAV follow-up support creatively, technically, and business-wise is superb.
Each phase and tool as outlined, if capitalized upon with focus, intent, energy and enthusiasm will bring successful and rewarding results! I've had experience from the past in cartoons stemming from being an animator and I currently am still involved in animation as I happily make the transition to a full time voiceover career.
Again, when all resources and training are followed diligently, dedicatedly and with gusto, there can be nothing that is lost -- except time in vacillating on your decision to GO FOR IT!! All of life is a risk, but in this case, the Such A Voice training and your commitment is a calculated one! A wonderful and exhilarating experience it is and something which galvanizes one into action with all the available tools to get a hit-the-ground-running start.

I was hired by a Video Production company in Vermont to voice a :30 local TV spot for a real estate company. This is just my second paid voice over job to date. This is how being a student with Such A Voice directly helped me to land this job:
1. I was contacted by the company and offered the job after they heard my Such A Voice-produced commercial demo. They said they really liked the folksy style of the Eddie Bauer script I did for the demo. Thanks to my coach Lisa Foster for selecting this script for me, and pushing me to emphasize the folksy style I used for the read. My being hired was a direct result of the company hearing and liking my demo.
2. When it came to setting a price for my work my training with Lisa taught me not to throw out the first dollar amount, and also how to find VO rate sheets to use as a guideline for my own price. When asked to quote a price I asked what their budget was for the job. When the price offer came back lower than I'd hoped, I was able to confidently tell them my "standard rate" for a :30 local TV spot, which was quite a bit more than they offered. Then I offered to meet them halfway between the difference, and it worked! Yes, I got less than my "standard rate," but not only did I negotiate a much better price than the initial offer, I was able to look like a good guy for being flexible on the price.
3. Ben's ProTools Manual, and notes taken from some of the SAV teleconferences, helped me to produce a quality final voice track that made the client happy. Not to mention tips from my training material on how to communicate and interact with clients in this industry in a way that made me look professional and more experienced than I really am.
4. Since I'm also a member of Voice123, I wasn't sure exactly how this client found me in the first place. After the job was submitted I asked where they found my demo. Their answer? "We got your name from the people at Such A Voice."
I'm hopeful that this job will lead to other jobs with this company in the future. I know that without the quality demo and training I have received from Such A Voice this job would never have happened for me. I feel my voice over career is starting to pick up momentum, and I have Lisa and everyone at Such A Voice to thank for it.

Despite all the obstacles you were presented with; ranging from my extreme shyness to my total lack of V/O technique experience, you were so patient, tolerant & professional. You not only taught me about Ireland, the land of wild seacoasts & misty rolling hills.....(btw: i still have dreams about the gentle regions of loughs, lakes, hills and rivers stretching across central Ireland to the west coast) (lol) but you got me through the production & creation of my first recorded Voice Over. For that and more, I am truly grateful.
For the record, you were absolutely RIGHT about the commercial content verses the more didactic content. You were well on target regarding the pace of my delivery as well. (I should have listened with a more receptive ear and applied it.)
That is definitely notable and exhibited in my demo. Next time, I will slooooow
it down & bring up the exuberance a notch or ten! Cause once again,you were right on those points as well! Your reply to me when I said "hold on to your hat, cause I am going over the top" with my delivery on one of the scripts was so accurate. Your response went something like this (in your serious voice), "Susan, you are NOT even near the top!" I thought, Wow... really? And here I speculated I had almost reached the summit ;-), or at the very least, I certainly had a view?
Rob, you are a natural talent in this industry & that has already been
established ;-) I just wanted to reinforce the fact that you are also an extraordinary teacher and I thank you. It is uncommon that people who excel in their trade also excel in the teachings of their own venue. Some tend to lose efficacy in the transposition of their knowledge meant to benefit others. However your scenario is quite a different story. You are a pleasure. You are a consummate professional and an expert in your field who can do, and who can teach. Such a Voice is fortunate to obtain your services. They are an awesome company with an incredibly talented staff. Kudos to you all!

Ben's manual has been a guiding tool & treasure! (His manual also saves the average Joe/Joanne from the tons of extraneous reading and deciphering of the published 15-20 lb books available on the subject of Pro tools as well as money spent on other audio recording studies.)

I just got my demos and I’m just thrilled with them! It’s amazing what a difference the right music makes! I wanted to personally thank you so much for all the assistance you gave me. The class was incredibly helpful. There is so much more to this art form than I ever really imagined, and that’s even from an actor’s point of view! Learning the intricacies of how to analyze each piece of copy before stepping up to the mic was exceptionally valuable information, and I know that those techniques will serve me well throughout my career.
I really appreciated the one-on-one coaching before and after my recording session. I enjoyed our talk and I found your advice on the business of voice-overs and the myriad of resources available to be immediately applicable and highly useful “insider information.”
It really helped cement my feeling that investing with Such A Voice in this fascinating, fun, and potentially lucrative endeavor was the best gift I could have given myself at this point in my life. I’m no longer searching for my passion. I’ve definitely found it, and you and everyone I have dealt with at Such A Voice have all been so professional and immensely supportive.

I took the advice off the marketing CD and recently offered my first free service to a new client and it has worked out really well! I did a 30 second free web commercial for a company called MotionFoundry, Inc who added my voice to a video for one of their clients. From this free track the client has then hired me to record the telephone systems for their office. Then they called me back again and said they had selected me as one of 16 voice talents to join a new project they are launching on the 9th November 2009, called Spot24, I signed with them yesterday and this will hopefully open me up to be hired by many other companies. You should take a look at it once it launches on Monday at http://motionfoundry.net, I will be on the Spot24 page next week and am currently on the Portfolio page under Spot24 Production Reel (the 3rd voice).
Anyway, I thought I would let you know how things are ticking along, working hard to get my name out there.

I'm writing to let you know that my voice-over career
is going really well! I started out with a couple local radio
commercials in Catskill, NY and then I landed a regional radio
commercial for the New York State Podiatric Medical Association,
400 radio stations all over New York State. This one is being done
in my home studio and will most likely air next month. In addition
to doing the voice-over work for that job, I'm doing the production
and marketing end of it as well.
I've also done an in-house recording for a local company and just
recently I was contracted with ETS (Educational Testing Service) to
do monthly voice-over narrations for their TOEFL exams. I've also
made numerous contacts to other potential clients, some who have
added me to their talent roster, some have requested hard copies
of my demo and others said they will be contacting me in the
future for voice-over work. I have also had many compliments on
my voice-over demos.
I am in the process of contracting with a rep in upstate NY and I
contracted with a rep in southern Florida -that one will most likely
not bring me a great deal of work, if any, but I figured it couldn't
hurt. I want to thank you for everything Such a Voice has given to
me - the training in Vermont and all the advice that has followed. I

Friday's group coaching workshop was an eye opener, with so much good and useful information.......and SO MUCH FUN! You handled everything in an approachable yet professional manner. Sunday's private coaching and demo recording sessions, though intense, were a blast. You and the recording engineer made me feel at home and any apprehension I had was gone in less than a minute. Thank you so much for all your insight, expertise and undivided attention to my demo production. Your keen analysis of my scripts and how I might best voice them is really appreciated. I know I have "regionalisms" that need working on. I have dealt with that throughout my acting career (some 40 years now). You would think I could get it all down by now, but it is a constant battle. You were so very helpful in pointing out the words to me, and then patiently waiting while I tried to correct those "Richmond, Virginia" pronunciations.

Finally my home studio is set up and I have even started to practice recording and editing. Thanks very much for your excellent, clear instructions for using Pro Tools.
At school where I teach, for some reason when there is a workshop for upgrading computer skills, my experience has been such that, even with following instructions to the letter there is a serious glitch. Even the IT people are stumped as to why it happens, even when they stand over me to assure that I am following the sequence of instructions. So much so, that now when I enter the room, the techs who will facilitate the session grin and say, "Well, Frances, let's see what happens to you today!" Even they are mystified as to why these things happen - no matter which station I take in the lab! Very bad Karma.
So, it was with some trepidation that I began the installation of the ProTools software late last week. I was confident, but anxious.
Friday and yesterday, with your manual...it all came together like a charm! Now I feel empowered and energized.
Thanks very much for such clear, concise language and the accompanying photos of the screens. I truly appreciate all of the help. There must be others out there who are as grateful. I hope they take the time to let you know!

Today I joined the ranks of “voice over professional” by earning my first paycheck doing, of all things, a National PBS documentary entitled “Revolution Airport.” I went down to Broadway, New York to record in a plush, beautiful studio (which was using ProTools!!!). The studio was located right next to the Paramount Building, Radio City Music Hall, Rockefeller Center and NBC Studios. Not a bad place to start!!!
I would like to thank you for all that you have done for me in getting me started in this new endeavor, because without your help, and Ben’'s help in his ProTools class, I am sure I would not be doing this today! Thanks again!!

I just returned from my studio recording session with Rob.
Without doubt, he has made every step of the way in this process extremely
pleasant. His professionalism has been outstanding!
Last Saturday's 8-hour class session was a blast to say the least. In that sort
of 'marathon' session, after about four or five hours, I'll drift off to count
carpet threads, or aimlessly twirl the pen in my hand.
Not so in Rob's class... NOT EVEN CLOSE. I was riveted to every word for the
entire time! His pace and delivery style are very enjoyable! I left both the class
and the studio session pumped and ready to continue forward in VO.
I certainly hope others in the class had a similar experience. It would be hard not to
enjoy the elements of 'style' that Rob puts into his work and his students.
I'm very excited to hear the finished demo. I'm really glad that Rob was there to coach
me through everything. He made the day for me!
From my view, you guys are the best for folks like me trying to crack back into
the business after a long layoff.

In June, I did a
tag line for a candy shop that was aired on the cable station that serves the Plymouth/ Cape
Cod area. Then I was hired by a producer on the Cape to be the voice for the J. Baker
Shoe promo for the sales staff of J. Baker Shoe Co. There were PAGES of script but
somehow I did it, a real test by fire, and was asked to do the next promo for the same
company. During this time, I was a weekly reader at the TIC, Talking Information Center in
Marshfield, where I read newspapers and recorded two books --a very rewarding
experience--although a volunteer one. Three jobs got away because of scheduling conflicts -
after all, I do have a "real" job, but these things will happen. Then, the local Continental
Cable Station, Ch. 13 in the New Bedford/Fall River area, hired me to do three tag lines and

the new producers of the DeWolf Real Estate show which airs Sunday morning on Ch. 5 in
the Boston area and on the CPB affiliate in Hartford, Ct. The first show with the new voices is
supposed to air Jan. 12.

Just thought I'd drop you a quick line to let you know how fantastic your pro- tools guide is. It made learning easy and fun. The OS on my old computer was incompatible with pro-tools, so I had a system built specifically for recording and business applications. My clients so far, have all provided recording facilities and all post production, so getting proficient in pro-tools did'nt become a priority until I received the new computer. As a recent computer idiot, using your easy to follow system has increased my confidence 100% in the ability to aggressively and successfully market myself . Thanks for such a valuable resource, I'm really having a blast. I just got a commission to produce a complete radio spot for an October fest and football promo for a local resturant and sports lounge, from writing the copy to post production. This is my final exam on recording proficientcy. All thats left is to import the music and burn the cd for the client in the morning. Thanks again for all the great resources and everyones continued support.
