Staff Spotlight: Roth Bernstein

Here at Such A Voice, we bring together some pretty incredible professionals from all different parts of the world to provide our students with a top voice-over education. Our staff members have such a wide variety of backgrounds and unique personalities. From working VO actors starring in movies, video games, and national TV commercial campaigns, to producers spending their days working on voice-over demos as well as broadcast voice-over work, to copywriters, casting directors and many other industry skills in between! We genuinely love bringing our expertise and our experiences together to create the best programs for our students.

For this week’s staff spotlight, we’d like to introduce you to Roth Bernstein! He handles all of the sales and technical support here at Such A Voice.

SAV: Hi Roth! Thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear what a typical day for you is like at the Such A Voice office.

Bernstein:  Since our students and staff are located all over the world, I first make sure that I respond to any questions or requests that came through my inbox from the night before. I like to have it all resolved before that person wakes up the next day. Once I’ve worked through all that, I split my time between assisting our intro class instructors with getting program information to prospective students and drafting contracts, and working on exciting new projects to bolster the already extensive resources we provide to our students.

SAV: Being someone who works behind-the-screens, we must ask: Mac or PC?

Bernstein: It’s funny, I often catch flak from my friends for not taking a hard stance on things, and here I will have to continue that tradition. My system at work is a PC, while my laptop at home is a Macbook Pro. That being said, I am a pretty extensive user of iCloud software (Calendar, Reminders, Notes). The seamless experience between my Macbook and my iPhone is really unbeatable.

SAV: What’s your favorite part of your job?

Bernstein: I provide a lot of the tech support for SAV, both for staff and for our students. While all of that stuff is really intuitive for me, it may be challenging for someone else. Getting into the voice-over field is challenging enough, but the fact that these students are taking on that challenge while simultaneously learning how to work with computers really is inspiring. We should all strive to be lifelong learners.

SAV:  What do you like to do for fun outside of work?

Bernstein: I love to stay active; cycling and running are my primary modes of doing so. I love to cook! I am usually whipping up something in my kitchen. In fact, I work once a week at a restaurant here in Burlington. I’m also a big fan of podcasts (let me know if you’re going to PodCon in December!). Podcasts are a great companion for cooking and running. Aside from that, I’ve been trying to read more recently which has been going…okay.

SAV: Important question for you since you live in Vermont.. Skiing or snowboarding?

Bernstein: I love to snowboard, and there are a lot of great mountains in Vermont for it. I also really love running in the winter when everything is covered in snow. It really is a beautiful sight.

SAV: What does your Spotify playlist look like?

Bernstein: I listen to all sorts of music, so my Spotify playlist is a bit…eclectic. Right now, my top three artists are K. Flay, 2 Chainz, and Jimmy Buffett.

SAV: If you could be in any television show, what would it be and why?

Bernstein: I’ve been watching A LOT of West Wing lately, so it’s hard to think of anything else at the moment. I love the fast-paced dialogue and the acting is terrific.

SAV: What’s one thing that you’ve learned about the voice-over industry that you didn’t know about before working at Such A Voice?

Bernstein: Voice-overs are everywhere, but you don’t realize until you have some reason to think about it. I think it’s very cool that technology has facilitated people recording studio-quality spots in the comfort of their homes,  sending them off to a firm across the globe, and then getting paid for it, too!

SAV: And last but not least, name a movie quote that resonates with you.

Bernstein: “I’m fiercely independent, and not a big fan of being alone.” -Paul Blart Mall Cop 2
